Performer on both modern and period instruments, I am the horn teach at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

I am passionate performer and teacher. I am interested in how to help my students to use their bodies as efficiently as possible to maximise their musical expression and enjoyment. I use a variety of teaching styles to help my students to find their own musical voice. I focus on breathing, body use, understanding how the mind works, and using inspiration and motivation to achieve results. At the same time I am a firm believer in the importance of a solid technical base, and work with my students so that they can understand and apply the principles of a good technique.

Prior to taking up my position in Melbourne I was Principal Horn of Tiroler Sinfonieorchester Innsbruck and Professor for Horn and the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium, in Austria. Living and working in Europe for 13 years, I worked regularly as guest principal horn of orchestras including SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg, Radio Sinfonieorchester Vienna and the Swedish Radio Orchestra. I am committed to historically informed early music and perform regularly as principal horn of The Orchestra of the Antipodes (Pinchgut Opera) and the Australian Haydn Ensemble. I also work regularly with the Australia Ensemble, Elision, and as guest principal horn with the orchestra of Victoria and with Tasmanian and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras.

When I met Carla, I was on the brink of quitting horn after eight years of studying performance at various universities and playing with many student and professional ensembles. My focus had ended up in all the wrong places, my confidence had been broken and I could no longer find that sense of 'Oneness' with my instrument. Lessons with Carla enabled me to find my 'mind-body-horn' connection and I've continued regaining confidence in my playing ever since. The tools Carla gave me are still some of the most useful in my practice and in performance. If it weren't for my lessons with Carla, I certainly wouldn't be where I am today. If it's mastery you seek, I highly recommend lessons with Carla - a beautiful musician, an awesome horn player and a gifted pedagogue.

I just started this year with lessons with Carla at the Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck and I already can detect major differences in my playing. She is an amazing teacher, who sees what one has to correct and gives you tips and ideas to help you in the procedure. She gave me a new feeling for playing music and has really helped me with my horn-playing. I find her an inspiring musician and and a brilliant hornist. Even if I'm not playing at my best during a lesson she never makes me feel like I failed. She always has a lot of patience and manges to get the best out of you.
