I am the Principal Oboe of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, following many years working throughout Australasia and the UK.

Since 2013, I have been Principal Oboe of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. I love teaching people of all levels. I have been lucky to experience some wonderful, generous and inspiring teachers, and I aim to pass on this knowledge and inspiration to you! I have learnt from teachers including Maurice Bourgue, Chris Cowie (Philharmonia London), Diana Doherty (Sydney Symphony), and Paris Conservatoire teachers Jacques Tys and David Walter. I studied at both the Sydney Conservatorium and the Royal College of Music, London. I have toured and worked throughout Australasia, the USA and Europe; and I hope to bring these varied and wonderful experiences to my lessons. My childhood woodwind teacher is a pioneer in Australian Skype teaching, and he has instilled this same passion within me for teaching-without-borders. I would love to meet you!

Reviews

Dr. Michael Spence, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sydney January

"Huw has the gifts of a remarkable teacher: he can inspire you to play better, make you believe that you can, and equip you to do it. He cares about details of both technique and musicianship, but is relaxed and never pedantic or oppressive. He makes learning fun as well as challenging. And he plays beautifully. I would strongly recommend him as a teacher.”

Shana Hoshino, high-school student. January

During my time with Huw Jones, my experience was fulfilling and educational. I feel it has enhanced my playing and has given me the opportunity to experience what it would be like to be a professional musician.
