Christopher Dicken is the solo trumpet player of both the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. He is a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Artistic Director of WorldBrass.
Born in Manchester, England, Christopher studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, during which time he won numerous prizes and developed his interest in early music and playing historic instruments. In 1997 he moved to Berlin for further study with Prof. Konradin Groth and a year later he enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik Saar/University of Music Saarbrücken studying with Prof. Peter Leiner.
Christopher has appeared as a guest with an extensive range of ensembles, including Capella Andrea Barca (with Andras Schiff), Chamber Orchestra of Europe (Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Ivan Fischer) Concerto Köln, Dunedin Consort, Ensemble Modern (with John Adams, George Benjamin), European Brandenburg Ensemble (with Trevor Pinnock), NDR Symphony Orchestra (with Christoph Eschenbach), and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (with Daniel Harding).
Since 2011 Christopher has been a visiting lecturer for Natural Trumpet at the Hochschule für Musik Saar/University of Music, Saarbrücken, Germany, and has given masterclasses in Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, England, Switzerland, and Japan.

I know Chris from my studying in Saarbrücken, where we met for many lessons in the past. On the one hand he is a really open minded friend, on the other hand you can really take a profit out of his big knowlegde about playing the trumpet. Chris is always interested in you as a person and every time we meet again he has new ideas and is able to add them to his healthy style of playing the trumpet. Technical exercises, breathing and feeling comfortable while playing are just a few aspects of it. Beyond the trumpet playing on the modern trumpet Chris is one of the best natural trumpet players I know. He introduces you in the way of filigran and light soloplaying same as playing the natural trumpet in the orchestra. A special aspect of Chris‘ teaching is how to prepare pieces and concerts mentally. Because of his many concertexperiences in different orchestras and ensembles he really knows how to behave in different situations. You should really get to now him in a lesson!!

He was a brass coach at the Verbier Festival Music Camp that I participated in. We have been working on a lot of things with the section and I have learned so much from him individually as well.My technical skills on the trumpet have improved a lot during that time. I started working on the breathing techinque I learned from him and after a few months my sound got a lot better. He is an expert of orchestral playing and chamber music. Chris is a motivated, enthusiastic teacher who I always enjoy having lessons with. He is innovative and has a thorough understanding of the trumpet and how to effectively teach it. Chris is lots of fun to learn from and is a inspiring musician who I thoroughly recommend having lessons with.
