I am an accoladed musician performing throughout Europe, with a passion for guiding students to reach their full potential for over 15 years!
Deanna Rachel Said is an American violist based in Denmark, who enjoys a busy orchestral and chamber music career throughout Europe. She is a member of the Chineke Orchestra based in London, as well as the genre-bending chamber ensemble Livestrings based in Copenhagen. Besides her work in these groups, she recently completed a soloist education in 2020 (the highest performance diploma available in Scandinavia).
As an orchestral musician, she performs regularly in some of the top orchestras in Denmark which include The Royal Danish Opera and has been a member of the following orchestras in the US: Evansville Philharmonic (Evansville, IN), Owensboro Symphony (Owensboro, KY), Reno Philharmonic (Reno, NV). She has also been invited to play at many prestigious festivals: the Grant Park Music Festival at Millennium Park (Chicago, IL), the Aspen Music Festival and School (Aspen, CO) and the Bowdoin International Music Festival (Bowdoin, ME).
Deanna has received numerous awards, including becoming a Fulbright Grant laureate in 2018 to research orchestral playing styles in Scandinavia at the Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. She was a recipient of the Sierra Arts Fund Career Grant, and was also the second prize winner of the Reno Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition. As a masters student at University of Nevada, she was named a Graduate teaching assistant to Prof. Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio and also received an award for being the ‘Most Outstanding Graduate Musician’.
Deanna has long had a passion for teaching and began working with students at just 18 years old. She has long since been comfortable teaching both viola and violin to a diverse range of students up to 76 years of age. In 2017, she became a faculty member at the Washington D.C. Youth Orchestra. There she started musicians as young as 4 years old and coached accomplished high school musicians in the Summer Chamber Music Intensive. She currently maintains a private studio (both online and in-person).
Equal access to music is an important part of her mission as a musician, and she performs outreach concerts at shelters, retirement homes, schools and community centers. As part of her work at the Grant Park Music Festival, she performed quartet concerts in underserved communities throughout Chicago. And part of her work at the Washington D.C. Youth Orchestra was to start a strings program at underserved elementary schools.
Originally from Texas, Deanna Said holds degrees from San Francisco Conservatory of Music (B.M), University of Nevada (M.M.) where she graduated with honors, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (P.D.) and Syddansk Musikkonservatorium (Soloist Class).
