MADS TOLLING is an internationally renowned violinist and composer originally from Copenhagen, Denmark. As a former member of the celebrated Turtle Island Quartet, he won two Grammy Awards for Best Classical Crossover album, and was nominated for a third Grammy this year.
Mads recently and triumphantly debuted his violin concerto composition - “Begejstring” – at The Paramount Theatre with The Oakland East Bay Symphony, and has performed over 1,000 concerts around the globe including appearances at many of the world’s most prestigious Concert Halls and Music Festivals. He continues to tour internationally, and has headlined nationally everywhere from The Newport Jazz Festival and The Hollywood Bowl, to Yerba Buena Gardens and Herbst Theatre.
Mads has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, and his recordings have received rave reviews in Downbeat Magazine, Strings Magazine, Washington Post, and San Francisco Chronicle.
He received Denmark’s Sankt Annae’s Award for Musical Excellence, and has performed for Danish Royalty – Prince Frederick & Princess Mary – at the celebration for The Danish Embassy’s 50 year anniversary.
Mads received his B.A. from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he now is on faculty at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley. As a featured Yamaha “Silent Strings” Artist, Mads leads clinics and masterclasses internationally.
