I'm the percussion professor at NCCU and The Jazz Drum set teacher at UNC Greensboro. I spent 10 years teaching with Jamey Aebersold Jazz.
I have spent my life discovering the drums, rhythms, and music from all walks of life. Brought up in the churches of NC, I came to learn the importance of "Supporting the music" from behind the drum set. I studied classical percussion and music education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, earning Bachelors ('91) and Masters ('10) degrees.
I learned the importance of "Swing" playing gigs across the US in the early 1990s. This opportunity allowed me to meet and perform with some of the world’s most important and influential jazz musicians. I continue to play with some of the international jazz community’s most loved and respected artist.
I love to teach so I can inspire others to find joy and passion in music and developing their musicianship. My method of teaching is multifaceted, but zeros in on improving the student's weakness. I like using recordings as the foundation for the lesson. I play a variety of music styles and genres. If you want to "Swing", spend some time with me. Don't forget to bring your ride cymbal.
