Victor Somma is a Brazilian composer and flutist born in 1981. Over the last two decades, eminent musicians and renowned ensembles have been playing his works in Europe and South America. Victor Somma is devoted to the search for a new paradigm for contemporary composition in which music become [again] an instrument for adoration and worship.
Mr. Somma’s academic path includes a Master degree in composition at the Luca Arts/KU-Leuven - Belgium and a Bachelor in flute at the National Music College – Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. His main professors were Luc Van Hove, (composition), Philippe Benoit (flute) and Ludo Claesen (Counterpoint).
As a freelancer flutist and chamber musician Victor Somma worked with major Brazilian Symphony Orchestras, playing and recording with different chamber formations throughout in Brazil, Uruguay, Cuba, Central America, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.
In 2014 Victor Somma was invited by by pianist Maria Joao Pires to become the leader of the Creative Musical Workshop of the "Chorales Equinox" in Belgium, which is supported by the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel. This is a “Musical Creation Workshop” devoted to teenagers in psychiatric condition as well as inside a maximum-security prison.
Since 2011 Mr. Somma have been working with unprivileged children in Favelas as well as asylums and prisons both in Brazil and Belgium; this work had as a consequence the creation of the Uaná – Association Pour les Arts – ASBL, a non-profit organization with the purpose of financial funding for human-care projects, by the promotion of concerts, recordings and art expositions.
