Loving nuances - a worldwide performing violin soloist-composer, CEO of Victory Academy Berlin for musical excellence & professor in South Korea
I was born into a family specialized in science, linguistics, theater, music, medicine and pedagogics. Actually my first violin student was 11 and I was 10. ;-)
It is the most normal thing for me to listen to other people and try helping them. In short: Teaching is in my blood, I love it and my students and I normally have lots of fun - next to an efficient working time focusing on the big arch in music as well as refined nuances.
As I child I played my orchestra solo debut and performed in the Berlin and Munich philharmonic halls, Seoul Arts Center, Paris Salle Pleyel, Teatro de la Scala Milano and other famous venues in the US, South America, Europe and Asia. Awarded with many competition prizes (e.g. World Federation of International Music Competitions), I played all kinds of music: solo with orchestra, solo, chamber music with colleagues such as A. Brendel, J. Fischer, S. Temmingh, Berlin Philharmonics, as concert master of Korean Broadcasting Orchestra, tutti in orchestras, choirs, studied baroque violin, New Music, composition and even Jazz/ Pop. Several concerts were broadcasted on radio and TV.
I became professor at the age of 28 in South Korea, selected at Weimar´s Franz Liszt Music University for its dependance in South Korea - one of the most vivid musical markets and inspiring places of music and arts on first world class level. I moved back to Europe and want to bridge these two cultures.
Next to international concerts I teach musical excellence at Victory Academy Berlin® in string playing and chamber music focusing on intense training for students´ entrance exams especially at German music universities or for final exams and competitions.
My three CDs – the last with all Ysaÿe sonatas and own pieces – played on the Ex-Midori Guarneri del Gesu – received all an Echo Classic nomination. My fourth album includes Nikolaj Medtner´s beautiful sonatas and my underwater music „Golden Sponge“ for violin, Asian instruments, percussion and loop and will be soon released with Sony Classical.
I wrote my bachalaureate thesis in maths discussing cycloids with a Stradivarius as an example and extended this in my diploma thesis in pedagogics discussing circle mouvements while playing the violin. Since ten years I´ve been working on a book - a practical philosophy about violin playing. I love the sound caleidoscopes of all kinds of instruments and composed "Jasmine Rice" a concerto for violin, harp, marimba, EurAsian ensemble & light.
You have a clear imagination about what you want to study with me and ask questions?Wonderful - I will try to give you the key to find YOUR answer. All humans have different bodies and share individual feelings with hands, body and instrument. This is a very delicate and important issue and I help you becoming a unity with your violin, bow, the music and your creativity in order to improve your sound on world class level. You want me to "conduct" the lesson? You will realize endless improvement. American Record Guide wrote about my third CD - all Ysaye solo sonatas and my piece "Sojuchameleon for violin and field recording" played on the Ex - Midori Guarneri del Gesù: "...like many composers who are also performers, she has looked deeper into the music she is playing than others do" (2017, benchmarked among the top three Ysaye albums worldwide) - we can get out a maximum of fine differenced sound colours ( from gorgeous beauty to abstract scratch, if modern music) analyse, structure - I want you to understand music. Because we love all music anyway - intuitive logic approach of heart and head are the only truth. So - we search for an interpretation based on musical phenomenology.
As you are a curious person we are looking for: Top quality, new dimensions, joy and beyond all: truth! I will help you finding the key for any problem - solving it on your own!
I studied with the best professors (Bron, Rissin, Picard e.g. at Hanns Eisler, with Gitlis, Chumachenco, Weithaas, composition with Sciarrino, Tchemberdji, Saunders, Meyer, SET school, Juilliard School, Korean traditional music and so on) in the world and I had to change my violin technique two times from zero. It was a hard process, partly very frustrating, I lost lots of time, thought about all, nearly stopped playing - but - finally found out my way of playing, my inner voice - succeeding through my believe in music. Therefore I understand quickly any technical problem in hands and body and have a rare register of technical skills, as I can switch between several schools and question any dogmatic school. I regard each student as an individual.
We can build up your technique with scales, articulations, etudes, improvisations and always study pieces next to. We will enrich classes with other arts, literature and any field you are interested in - associative and always respecting our physical well-being while playing.
If you need competition or entrance/ final exams training
we can schedule intense sessions and you will make a huge progress in short time.
Just let men know what you need, bring all your enthusiasm and we´ll have a great time together with music! Find your musical vision!
Ms. Kaunzner is not only a phenomenal violinist but also a terrific teacher. While she is a perfectionist, who pays great attention to details, she is also very patient with beginners. She will make sure you learn the finest technique and achieve a great sound with your instrument. Any note that isn’t absolutely perfect in pitch will be revised. Thank you!
Ms. Kaunzner is an extremely detailed, insightful, and caring teacher. Her approach to technique and music built confidence in my playing, and gave my key pointers on what to improve on. I will definitely find her again for lessons! Vielen Dank für die Geigenunterricht! :)
Thank your for this great and inspiring introduction lesson. Finally I know how to solve the technical problem in Paganini. I will definetly continue lessons with you. Thank you so much!
