I'm a principal violin in the Vienna Radio Orchestra, a Juilliard alumna, and eager to share the experiences I've made on the podium with you!
Hi you!
I'm Amalie, which is a name that comes from the old Gothic word for "hard working" - and I spend every day trying to prove that fitting.
I'm 30 years old and born in Denmark, but have spent a great deal of my life living abroad, untiringly getting to know foreign mentalities and musical approaches. I started playing the violin at the age of 6 with the Japanese Suzuki-method and am educated from The Juilliard School in New York and The University of Music in Vienna, where I now live and work as a tenured member of the principal violin group in the Vienna Radio Orchestra.
I can offer you something from both the American and the Viennese violin school, meaning both the focus of strong, healthy, and personal playing, and the attention to elegant, tasteful musical details. Furthermore, I want to pass on some of the mental training for performing that I've learned through my own experiences as both a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra musician.
Apart from playing the violin for a living, I'm the mother of (soon) two, and I like to read novels, cook, and painting with watercolor. Wanting time for all of these things, I have taught myself how to work in a focused and productive way to get the most out of my practice time. I hope I can teach you the same!
I'm looking forward to meeting you and sharing a little part of what this crazy, wonderful profession is like.
Best, Amalie
A couple of years ago my daughter Asta had the great pleasure of Amalie's teaching skills, when we invited Amalie to share some of her great musicality and experiences with the Suzuki violin teaching method. Asta was very inspired by Amalies natural approach to the music and her capability to communicate her enormous technical skills into some creative vehicle for the music. We got to know Amalie as an open and inspiring person, who in my perspective - I'm a vocal and music teacher myself- have a distinct talent for music teaching at all levels.
For a period of three months, Amalie Elmark gave our daughter Francesca violin lessons. This was in connection with Amalie's education to become a teacher. Amalie was a very sweet and competent teacher for our 12-year-old girl. She quickly got to know Francesca and communicated to her at her level, meaning that she talked to her in a way that a 12-year-old could understand. Amalie quickly noticed where Francesca needed to improve her skills and worked seriously on that. The result was very good, and Francesca was very happy to work with Amalie. Amalie could see some of the smaller things that can easily be improved, but which can make a big difference when learning to play an instrument. Francesca improved very much during the time with Amalie, and I can only give my very best recommandations to Amalie.
