Hello my music friends! Let's play together.
In my practicing and teaching I focus primarily on finding the best sound as effortlessly as possible, and on solidifying the basics so that technique doesn’t get in the way of making music.
I have been using the Internet to learn and teach trumpet for the past 15 years. It works so well that I am writing my doctoral thesis about Distance Learning in trumpet playing, and the playwithapro website is the perfect tool to explore the field even further.
In my soloist career I dedicate most of my time playing premières of trumpet concertos written for me, it is a privilege and excitement to bring to life a piece of music that was never heard before! As an orchestra musician I played as principal in Porto Alegre Symphony (OSPA), and as utility trumpet in São Paulo State Symphony (OSESP). I also had amazing experiences playing with YOA Orchestra of the Americas, Simon Bolivar Symphony, and Venezuelan Brass Ensemble, then later under the baton of former Berlin Philharmonic’s trumpeter Thomas Clamor.
I got my masters degree in Music Teaching Practices at the Rio de Janeiro State Federal University (UNIRIO), and my Bachelors of Music under the instruction of Dr. Nailson Simões at the same institution. My basic training was done at first at the Marching Band Lyra of Mauá, then with Clóvis Beltrami in Campinas, São Paulo. I continued my advanced studies with Charles Schlueter, former principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony, and Ole Edward Antonsen, international soloist.
I have really enjoyed my first lesson with Flavio. He is a very charismatic and knowledgable teacher.
I'm a beginner player who decided to learn this beautiful instrument late in life and despite all the challenges with a busy schedule and kids, Flávio unique approach of teachings made me go distances I never thought I would be able to and in a really short period of time. His focus on pure and beautiful sound above all technics make you actually appreciate music as a whole and enjoy your instrument. He took me from not playing a simple scale to be able to play songs and most of all enjoy doing it.
Classes with Professor Flavio Gabriel are always very good and highly constructive. His teaching is solid and engaging, I trule think he is a great teacher and a great artist.
