Hi, I'm Katlijn Sergeant, piccolo solo at Malmö Symphony Orchestra and piccolo teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
I'm principal piccolo in the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Sweden.
Playing piccolo in the symphony orchestra I developed a big affection for the instrument. It has such an important and diverse role in the orchestra and also an interesting repertoire in chamber music and solo repertoire.
I got my education at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Carlos Bruneel and specialized afterwards in piccolo with Vincent Cortvrint.
I also found my inspiration in different masterclasses with Emanuel Pahud, Emily Beynon, Jo Hagen, Michel Moragues, Michel Debost, Michael Faust, Gudrun Hinze,....
Over the years, playing the flute and piccolo also brought me to play in many exciting orchestras: Oslo Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Monnaie Opera House in Brussels, Royal Danish Opera,...
As it shows, I'm very passionate about orchestra playing, but I always stay hungry for chamber music. Especially exploring the piccolo in chamber music is an interesting challenge.
I look forward to meeting you here online and sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for the piccolo with you.
