I am professor at the Versailles Conservatory and have over 20 years experience with a strong foundation in the Russian Violin School

I am passionate about teaching students of all ages. I aim to not only help students with an indispensable and thorough technique but also to drive their curiosity and help them develop as complete, thinking musicians. My own background is rather unique (rooted in the tradition of the Russian Violin School I also have a lot of experience with the educational systems of the United States and Europe) and I am very open and able to adapt to the needs of each individual student. I have translated into English the works of the great violin pedagogue Yuri Yankelevich, but I don't believe in any one method or dogmatic approach. Instead I try to help each student discover the most efficient tools for his or her individual progression. A quote that particularly resonates with me :

"But the essential condition of everything you do, and not only in music, the touchstone, must be choice, love, passion. You do it because you consider that the marvelous adventure of being alive depends entirely on the atmosphere you yourself create, by your enthusiasm, your conviction, your understanding. But without a thorough technique, you cannot even express what you feel most intensely. And it it is here that the teacher comes in." - Nadia Boulanger

Chris Schrempp June

I studied with Masha for about 5 years at Brooklyn Conservatory where she was head of the Classical Music Dept. She is a great teacher and person. She sees into a student's individual personality and needs. She is also a fantastic musician herself. This site worked well and I'm thrilled to be having lessons again with Masha.

I've studied with Masha for over 5 years in person at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music where she was director of the Classical Music Program. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to meet up with her again via online lessons. She's definitely the best teacher I've ever studied with.
