1. KM for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, international soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster. I'd love to help you explore music & the violin.

Currently, I am the 1. Konzertmeister for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and have performed internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster.

I would be delighted to help you explore music, whether it is solo, chamber or orchestral repertoire. I am interested in all things musical and technical, having been taught under many schools of violin playing; from the Russian and Franco-Belgian schools to the Hungarian traditions of Hubay, Zathureczky, et. al. I was also trained from an early age in the system of Ivan Galamian, (with whose Meadowmount assistant I studied with). I can help you explore technical concepts and help you develop proven strategies that best fit your needs

If you are preparing for auditions, I can help you with vital secrets for success. (I have many years of experience having served as 1. Concertmaster for the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Tokyo Philharmonic and Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestras, as well as for the Budapest Symphony and Solti Chamber Orchestras.)

I also taught violin and orchestral studies as a member of the string department at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and was the first foreigner to hold that position in the history of the institution. You can read an overview of my activities at the Liszt Academy here at the following URL: https://zeneakademia.hu/news/my-main-goal-is-to-inspire-my-students-towards-a-future-in-music-interview-with-nathan-giem-117773

While I teach mainly high-level students, my students have ranged from complete beginners of all ages to professional musicians with jobs around the world. I have taught privately world-wide, at the high school level (USA) and at the university level (USA and Hungary). My professional students have won leading positions in US and European orchestras, as well as successful chamber music careers.

Lastly, if you are looking for assistance on finding or evaluating a concert instrument, I have unique experience and connections. I have served as a Tone Judge for the Violin Society of America’s violin making competition. As Music Director for the VSA’s Annual Oberlin Acoustics Workshop, I collaborate with musicians, scientists, and instrument makers from around the world to explore the physics of string instruments in a performance setting. I can provide you unbiased advice and put you in touch with world-class luthiers and violin makers.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
